Welcome to Osbaldwick Primary School

With the old village at its heart Osbaldwick is a well established suburban area on the eastern edge of York.

Osbaldwick Primary School is centrally situated and we accept children from the age of 4/5 to 11 years. The majority of our children transfer to Archbishop Holgate’s Science and Mathematics college school at the end of Key Stage 2, a nationally recognised secondary school. There is a very positive relationship between the two schools, allowing for close liaison and working in science and mathematics in particular.

We average 200 pupils in seven classes with a single year entry. We work closely with other early year providers, Osbaldwick and Murton Playgroup, Tiddlywinks Day Nursery and childminders in the area, together with some nursery units at other schools. We have a close relationship with St Thomas's Church, Osbaldwick and each year the junior Christmas concerts take place there.

We are housed in a bright and cheerful building with 7 classrooms, extensive ICT suite, Library, Hall and other administrative rooms. The reception class is a well-equipped bright area with an outdoor learning resource. Our grounds are extensive with ample playground; gardened quiet areas with flowerbeds and pots that the children help to look after at the front of school with play equipment and seating. A large enclosed private playing field is situated behind the school.

We have close links to the local church, village community and offer a Breakfast Club from 7.45am to 8.50am, an After School Club from 3.20 p.m. to 5.45p.m. daily and a Holiday Club. ‘Osbaldwick Children’ is the extended school charitable organisation that runs the Breakfast Club, Wacky After School Club and Osbaldwick and Murton Playgroup in the attached Annexe Building located in a pleasant position on the main school site. This is a purpose built facility with its own secure play area. The school and Osbaldwick Children work alongside each other and parents can pre-book places for their children.

There is a range of extra curricular clubs and activities which take place, including girls and boys football, tag rugby, netball, drumming, choir, table tennis, arts and crafts, multi-sport, infant and junior dance, French, Boccia and a Film Club. We also do brass and woodwind peripatetic teaching during school hours and our children’s School Council has a direct say in certain aspects of school life.

The school provides a meeting venue for a number of other groups including Slimming World and York Community Church, who provide an important source of funds.

The success of the school was recognised in our most recent OFSTED inspection. These are just some of the overwhelming positive comments from their report.

"Parents and carers are quick to confirm how much they appreciate the school’s outstanding care, guidance and support."

OFSTED letter to Osbaldwick Primary School children, December 2010

These are just some of the reasons why Osbaldwick Primary School is one of the most popular choices for primary education in the area. Occasionally we do have places available in individual year groups and we would advise parents to contact the school directly, either by email or telephone on 01904 411036 if they wish to enquire about such places.
