Drumming Club
The drumming group has been going now for over three years and is run by Mr Shoobridge. It involves children from year 5 and 6 and has about 12 to 15 members each year.
The group became very popular after performing to parents and children at school events and is also now performing out of school, most recently at the Guildhall for a Ghana schools link evening. The group has been on a number of trips including theatre visits to see 'The greatest Drummer' and 'Stomp'.
A grant from EMI kick started the group, enabling us to buy drums and percussion instruments, later donations from the School Association paid for a drum kit and some extra African drums. African drumming rhythms are the basis for most of the groups numbers but cross rhythms and percussion are often created by the children themselves.
The group is re-invented each year when the year 6 children leave and new year 5s join. With the financial contributions and the children's enthusiasm, the group continues to go from strength to strength.
A recent Ofsted report commented "In the drumming session, pupils’ grasp of rhythm and command of technique was very impressive."
