YORK CARES AWARD
Miss Barringer attended the York Cares Award held in the Aviva board room. York Cares is run by the university and one of the Governors initially involved our school in the York Cares projects for enterprise. York Cares often approach the school for us to take part in the various projects which have involved our older children. The schools work was recognised by a ‘Golden Moments’ award and Miss Barringer won the volunteer York Cares Award however she would like to acknowledge that the bulk of the work has been carried forward by Mrs Borrett so she shares the award too! Well done Mrs Borrett.
This week Miss Barringer, Mrs Borrett, and two pupils were invited to the Finance Department at the University where our pupils gave a power point about our Stationery Shop. Originally this department helped our school set up our Stationery Shop so it was a chance for them to see how far we have progressed. We took our recent trophies with us to show them how well we are doing in Finance related activities.
YR 4 SILENT MOVIES AND THE YOSCARS
Our Yr 4 children made some fantastic Silent Movies which they showed to parents at a special screening show. The event was incorporated into the classes Money Week project so the event was ran like a business. Tickets, ice cream and copies of the DVD were sold resulting in £100 being raised which the class are donating to Macmillan Nurses for Cancer. Thank you to all the parents who came and supported our afternoon.
One of our films was chosen to be nominated at the Yoscars and the children were invited to attend the Yoscar ceremony at the Racecourse. They were treated like film stars and all them were dressed in their Yoscar finery. The film ‘A Witness to a Robbery’ went on to become the winner so the Yoscar gold statue is now in school! Well done to our young budding actors and actresses, directors, editors and production managers.
SPORT
Football
Yr3/Yr4 took part in a Football Festival at Archbishop Holgate’s and all three of our teams won. Many parents commented on how well behaved our children were. Well done to everyone who took part.
Our girl’s team came second in a Girls Football Tournament which took place at Lord Deramore’s School. This was the first time they had played as a team and they did very well. Breanna saved a penalty and both Libby and Leah scored. All the players gave tremendous commitment. Well done.
Cricket
The cricket team lost to Robert Wilkinson School in the semi final but the team played brilliantly. The coach from Strensall said that we were the best team that they had played and they are the Yorkshire Champions! Well done to all members of the team. We would like to thank David Rippon and Osbaldwick Cricket Club for all their support over the year.
CONCERTS
KS1 Concert
Our children performed songs in a concert called ‘Taking Care of Myself’ themed around how they can take care of themselves, which ties into the work that they have been doing in class over the last term. They sang brilliantly-well done everyone.
KS2 Concert
This year the children performed in an extra performance of their play ‘Alice in Wonderland’ to accommodate everyone who wished to see the show. The costumes and scenery were fantastic, the actors and actresses played their parts very well and the singing was great. Our productions keep getting bigger each year and this certainly was one of our longer plays so congratulations to everyone involved. Thank you to the School Association for selling ice creams at the intervals in all our productions and to all parents, grand parents, friends who came to watch, thank you for your support. Your donations will be put to good use for next years productions.
GARDENING CLUB
Some of our pupils were selected to represent our school Gardening Club at a gardening celebration hosted by North Yorkshire County Caterers in the presence of the Right Honourable Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress at the Guild Hall. We had a display showing all the children’s activities that had taken place in the gardening club and a basket contained some of our home grown produce. Unfortunately, we did not win the main prize but we did receive three hundred packets of seeds. This will keep Mrs Booth, Mrs Reilly and members of the gardening club very busy next year!!
RECEPTION TRIP
Our Reception children visited the John Bull Rock factory where they all made their own stick of rock with their initial running through it. They also visited Candy Kingdom. All the children were very well behaved and enjoyed their day out.
LIBRARY
We would appreciate it if all children can search their bedrooms, desk areas to return library books and merit badges to school before the end of the week. Thank you.
STAFF LEAVERS AND RE- STARTERS
We will be very sad to say goodbye to Miss Wallett on Friday who has been teaching our Year 3 class whilst Mrs Tasker has not been in school. She has been a great member of our team and we may still see her occasionally in school as she may cover for staff when they are on courses.
We are looking forward to the return of Mrs Tasker and Mrs Stamp in September who has both made a full recovery.
DINNER MONEY
A big thank you to all of you who bring dinner money in on time, we very much appreciate this in the office. For those of you who would like to pay in advance for school dinners next term the first half term cost will be £77.40 which takes into account the training day. For our new reception starters the amount will be £70.95. You may use unused junk envelopes to send in dinner money provided you clearly mark them with your child’s name and class and days that dinners are required.
SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
We would like to thank all the members of the School Association for all their hard work this year raising funds for school and helping with all the various tasks. It is very much appreciated.
Our Tesco, Sainsbury Active Kids orders have been sent off and we are expecting some large parcels to arrive in the Autumn term. Thank you to every one who saved vouchers for us.
YR 6 LEAVERS BBQ
We would like to thank Mr Shoobridge and his band Trigger 66 for entertaining the Yr 6 children and some staff members at the Yr6 Leavers BBQ. Also, we would like to say many thanks to the members of the School Association for buying the food, cooking it and serving the drinks. It was great to see all the children singing along to the many songs including a Lady Gaga cover plus they knew the words to some of the older songs! (Mr Shoobridge had been teaching them in advance)

SUMMER TERM
It has been a very hectic summer term, at times a bit like being in a whirlwind with all the extra events taking place as well as normal lessons. We are very very proud of your children for everything they have achieved this year. Even as we write the Yr 6 class are practicing their sketches for their Yr 6 Leavers Assembly, the Yr 3 children are busy making hats for their Mad Hatters Tea Party and other classes have other plans for the end of term. We are sure we have probably missed telling you about some of the events your children have been involved in however, we are confident that your children will give you all the details.
We would like to wish every one a good holiday and for all the children to come back nice and refreshed to start in their new class from September.
