SHOE BOX APPEAL
We received 92 Christmas Shoeboxes brightly decorated in Christmas wrap crammed with exciting gifts to send to children across the world as part of the Samaritans Purse Christmas appeal. Also your monetary donations of £151.45 collected at our Harvest Festival went towards the transportation of the boxes. Thank you very much everyone for your kind generosity. It was lovely to see so many of you at our Harvest Festival.
SPONSORED SCOOTER CHALLENGE
At the latest count we have already received over £1,600 in Sponsor money which is a fantastic achievement raised through a fun activity. We are spending some of the money on decorating and refurbishing our library and buying additional books for it. We would appreciate it if any outstanding Sponsor Money can be sent into school by Friday 4th November to enable us to hand out our prizes. Many thanks go to all your family and friends for helping to support this fund raising event. The amount raised has far exceeded our expectations!

For those of you who would like to pay by cheques for dinner money the total for the term is £74.80(this excludes the training day)
SPORT
Yr 5 and Yr 6 took part in a Tag Rugby festival and Yr 3 took part in a Hockey tournament. All the children participated enthusiastically. The football team have had a very successful start to the season with a 5-1 and 10-1 victory in the league. The team have got through the preliminary round in the primary Cup and are playing Heworth shortly. There has been a great team spirit and they have played some very sporting games.
CLASS NEWS
Yr 5 ran the ‘Biscuit Apprentice’ where the children worked in teams to set up companies to sell biscuits. It was a raging success so thank you everyone for your support as at times it was difficult to keep up with the demand when the biscuits were being sold! Yr 5 also took part in a talent competition at Burnholme Community College against another four schools. We are pleased to announce that Leo Smith won the competition; his prize is a recording session so we are looking forward to hearing his CD in the future. Well done Leo. Yr 1 visited the Yorkshire Wildlife Park on a very rainy and windy day but had fun seeing all the tigers! This month we also had a writer Miles Cain in school helping Yr 3, 4, 5 and with story telling and writing.
ANTIBULLYING WEEK
Antibullying Week will take place during the week commencing 14th November. During this week we will be holding assemblies explaining to the children what bullying is and explaining how to deal with it. We will be explaining to the pupil’s ways in which they can develop independent strategies for low level resolving conflict at playtime. Look out for the Antibullying leaflets for parents which explain how to spot for signs of bullying and how to work in partnership with school to deal with any issues. Ask your child about ‘Debugging’ (you may be surprised as to what this is and it has nothing to do with head lice!)
HAIRCUTS AND UNIFORM
We have noticed that a few children are coming to school in trainers, as part of our uniform policy this is not allowed so we would like to see them wearing dark coloured shoes instead. Also some children have had inappropriate hair cuts for school, specifically shaved patterns. These haircuts are not in line with school policy and should be kept for the holiday weeks only.
JARBOLA AND TOMBOLA NON UNIFORM DAY
We are having a non uniform day on Thursday 17th November but this time instead of asking for a £1 we would like pupils to bring in either a ‘Jar ‘ filled with sweets/toiletries/toys for our Jarbola Stall or a Tombola prize( chocolates, toys, toiletries, Christmas Gifts etc for the Tombola stall. These stalls will be part of our Christmas Fair on the 1st December-thank you.
We would also appreciate it if you can send in empty glass jars and bottles of nail varnish for another project. The nail varnish doesn’t have to be new and can be half bottles too. It doesn’t matter if the nail varnish has gone tacky.
Another class would also like donations of unwanted gifts suitable for men and ladies (not children) Christmas wrapping paper and gift tags. This is for another exciting project.
PARENT CALL
We recently sent out a Parent Call communication letter which we would appreciate if you could return this form by Monday 7th November. If you have lost or mislaid your form please ask for another one as your up to date details will be used as part of our new Parent Call communication system.
