CLUBS

The clubs information is shown on the Clubs Notice board in the playground and places are often limited therefore reply slips need to be returned immediately to avoid disappointing your child as club places get filled very quickly. Registration forms are available outside the school office.

If your child cannot attend any of the After School Clubs (once they have an allocated place) then parents must inform the office either in person or by telephone. If in the event that your child is present at school but does not attend the club then our staff will then follow strict procedures to track your child’s whereabouts.

PHOTOGRAPHS

Orders for photographs from Tempest must be handed into the office by 9.30am on Friday 7th October. If you miss the deadline, you may still send off for the photographs but you will have to pay for your own postage and delivery.

UNIFORM

We have a large amount of sweatshirts and other items overflowing out of our lost property bin therefore we would appreciate it if you can come into school and check if anything belongs to your child. The majority of items have no names on them so we cannot return them to their owners! Please can you use a permanent marker if handwriting names on uniform as biro washes off in the washing machine. You can order name tapes form our uniform supplier, pick up an order form from outside the school office.

AWARDS

Already this term two of our pupils have won awards; firstly Robert Marshall has won a MP4 player for STEM (Science Technology Engineering Maths) Leaders Special award. Secondly, Bethany White has won the STEM leaders WISE Special Advanced award. Her prize for this award is to have the certificate presented to her by HRH Princess Anne in London in October. Congratulations go to both of them.

ROBINWOOD

Our Yr 6 class had a successful and enjoyable time at Robinwood Activity Centre in Todmorden during their three day residential visit despite the gales and the rain. They took part in many activities including canoeing, caving, archery, climbing where they learnt teamwork and got to know each other in an entirely different environment.

CUPS

May we remind the children to return their cups in time for the Cup Assembly on a Friday- thank you.

ABSENCES

Did you know? Statistically, if children are absent from school for between 10% and 20% of their time then, only a quarter of them are likely to get good GCSE results, whereas three quarters of them will not achieve good results.

SPONSORED SCOOTER CHALLENGE

We would just like to remind everyone about the Sponsored Scooter Challenge that will be taking place on Thursday 13th October. Please can you ensure that you label your child’s scooter with their name and class as we are expecting a large amount of scooters in school that day. As a result we are providing scooter bays where your child will be directed to in the morning before your child joins their class line up.

CRAFT CLUB

Thank you to those of you who have donated cards already, we can make use of some more so please send in your unwanted birthday, anniversary cards etc. Also if anyone has any old Christmas cards we may be able to make use of these too.

CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK EVENTS

Explore York Library learning Centre are running a children’s book week events incorporating ‘Wacky words and Awesome Art’ on Saturday 8th October. For tickets tel: 552828 or e-mail exploreyork@york.gov.uk . ‘Wild Words and Preposterous Pictures’ is on the 4th October at Acomb library, tel: 552651, and 6th October at Tang Hall library tel: 552655. Numerous activities are taking place during October Half Term contact the libraries for more information or look at the information sheet on the notice board outside the office.

STATIONERY SHOP

Our stationery shop re-opens on Monday 10th October where we will be selling Halloween items at a very good price. Stock up for your Halloween parties! We also sell pens, pencils, rubbers, notebooks and other novelty items. Children can buy items from the shop at 1pm lunchtime on a Monday so if younger children wish to spend at the shop it is advisable to send their money in an envelope marked stationery shop.

CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP

Years 3 to 6 enjoyed a creative writing workshop provided by an inspirational expert story teller this week. Try asking your child about their experience and we are confident their face will light up.
